Thyroid Problems :
Thyroid problems, also called thyroid disease, are a set of diseases affecting the thyroid gland. These thyroid problems also affect the amount of thyroid hormone produced by the thyroid gland, resulting in conditions like hyperthyroidism and hypothyroidism. The other types of thyroid disorders that occur due to hypothyroidism include congenital hypothyroidism, Hashimoto's disease, and iodine deficiency. Hyperthyroidism also results in a wide range of conditions such as thyroid nodules, Graves' disease, and excess iodine problems. The common symptoms of hypothyroidism are cold intolerance, dry skin, slow heart rate, fatigue, unexplained weight gain, heavy bleeding during periods, and depression. The presenting complaints of hyperthyroidism include fast heart rate, heat intolerance, unexplained weight loss, anxiety, sweaty skin, irregular periods, and sleeping difficulties. The diagnostic tests conducted to identify these thyroid disorders include investigations to check the levels of thyroid hormones, nuclear medicine imaging, and ultrasound. The management of thyroid problems involves various options such as taking medications, radioiodine therapy, and performing surgeries.
