Squint :
Squint is a medical condition in which the eyes are misaligned and one looks in a different direction from the other. It is seen in all ages and some children grow out of it by 6 months of age. The condition can be present occasionally or constantly. Risk factors include genetics (family history), muscle dysfunctions (myasthenia gravis), far-sightedness, problems with the brain , trauma, infections, premature birth, cerebral palsy (CP), stroke, cataract, glaucoma etc. If the squint is present since birth and continued during the childhood it may result in lazy eye/amblyopia and loss of depth perception. If the onset is during adulthood the person is likely to have double vision. Other symptoms and signs include crossed eyes / wall-eyed appearance, double vision or blurred vision, eye strain or fatigue, head tilting and turning to see clearly , redness or swelling of the eye ( seen in cases of glaucoma), discharge or tearing, difficulty in reading and performing daily activities in some patients. Depending on the underlying condition it is treated with a combination of eyeglasses/lens , vision therapy or surgery.
