SLE :
SLE or systemic lupus erythematosus is an autoimmune disease that results in inflammation of the whole body. SLE presents with complaints such as mouth sores, fever, hair loss, fatigue, joint pain, chest pain, muscle pain, headaches, shortness of breath, rashes, confusion, swollen glands, swelling of arms, legs, or face, and blood clots. The other presenting complaints of SLE include nausea, dry eyes, depression, Raynaud's phenomenon, sensitivity to light, vomiting, anemia, heart disease, osteoporosis, seizures, and kidney disease. The causative factors of SLE include genetic makeup, environmental triggers, hormonal, health history, including smoking habits, certain medications, and stress levels. To diagnose SLE, the investigations conducted include blood tests, anti-nuclear antibody (ANA) test for antibodies, urinalysis, and biopsy of the kidney or skin. The management of SLE involves prescribing medications to prevent flare- ups and to reduce the effects of symptoms.
