Ovulation Induction :
Ovulation induction (OI) is the stimulation of ovary for ovulation by medication which is usually done in the cases of infertility treatment. It may help women with PCOS that have anovulation (no ovulation) or oligoovulation (less ovulatory cycles). It is used in women with PCOS, hypothalamic amenorrhea (HA), premature ovarian failure (POF) , luteal phase defect , hyperprolactinemia , thyroid disorders etc,. Ovulation induction can be used for final maturation induction during late follicular phase at the time of artificial insemination, controlled ovarian hyperstimulation as a part of in-vitro fertilization which involves extracting the oocyte , fertilizing it followed by embryo transfer. Medications are usually prescribed during the first week of the menstrual cycle and monitor the response of the ovaries with ultrasound . Complications of of ovulation induction are ovarian hyperstimulation syndrome (OHS) , risk of multiple pregnancy. Other treatments for anovulation include weight loss , in vitro fertilization with controlled ovarian hyperstimulation, in vitro maturation, laparoscopic ovarian drilling etc.,
