Myocardial Infarction ( MI ) :
Myocardial infarction is also called a heart attack in common language. It happens due to the narrowing of blood vessels, leading to a lack of flow of blood, resulting in damage to the heart muscle. It is an emergency situation, the patient needs to be shifted to the hospital immediately. Symptoms of myocardial infarction include severe chest pain or jaw pain radiating to the left arm and shoulder associated with sweating, jaw pain, or abdominal discomfort. Patients with uncontrolled diabetes might even don't experience any symptoms. Some of risk factors for developing a myocardial infarction are Smoking, abuse of alcohol, uncontrolled blood sugars, hypertension, certain diseases like hypothyroid and dyslipidemia, a strong family history of coronary artery disease. Myocardial infarction, if left untreated, can lead to heart failure, ventricular septal defects, arrhythmias, and even sudden cardiac death. Diagnosis is established with investigations like ECG, 2d echo, thorough physical examination, proper history taking, and basic blood investigations. Treatment includes thrombolytic therapy followed by coronary angiogram and angioplasty.
