Carotid Angiogram :
Carotid stenosis, also called carotid artery disease, is described as plaque buildup in the artery, blocking the normal flow of blood in the artery, eventually causing stroke. The factors responsible for causing carotid stenosis are smoking and using tobacco products, high cholesterol, high blood pressure, obesity, diabetes, sedentary lifestyle, and age. In the beginning, carotid stenosis may not present with any symptoms. But it presents significant signs, as it progresses to a transient ischemic attack or stroke. The chief complaints of TIA or stroke include loss of sensation on one side of the body, slurred speech or trouble forming words and communicating with others, loss of muscle strength, loss of vision in one eye with a dark shade coming from down over the field of vision, drooping of one side of face, and having weakness on one side of the body. The best way of managing carotid stenosis is by performing a surgery called carotid endarterectomy.
