Bradycardia :
Bradycardia is a serious heart condition characterized by a slow heart rate. A normal heart beats at the rate of 60 to 100 beats per minute. If the heart rate is less than sixty beats per minute, the person is said to have bradycardia. The presenting complaints of bradycardia include chest pain, confusion or memory issues, feeling very exhausted, mainly during physical activity, light-headedness or dizziness, shortness of breath, and fainting or near fainting. The causative factors of bradycardia include heart tissue damage related to aging, myocarditis, hypothyroidism, changes in levels of potassium and calcium in the body, obstructive sleep apnea, rheumatic fever or lupus, congenital heart defects, damage to heart tissue due to a heart attack or heart disease and usage of certain medications such as sedatives and opioids. The treatment methods to deal with bradycardia include making necessary lifestyle changes, prescribing medications and insertion of a medical device called a pacemaker.
