Arrhythmia :
Arrhythmia is defined as an irregular heartbeat, which can be just irregular or too fast, or too slow. Arrhythmia is categorized into several types, such as ventricular arrhythmias, supraventricular arrhythmias, bradyarrhythmias and junctional rhythms. The presenting complains of arrhythmia are dizziness, heart palpitations, shortness of breath, fainting episodes, chest discomfort and weakness. Arrhythmia occurs due to common conditions such as coronary artery disease, changes in the heart muscle, high blood pressure, the healing process after heart surgery, irritable tissue in the heart, electrolyte imbalance in the blood, valve disorders, injury from a heart attack, and certain other medications. The treatment plan to manage arrhythmia involves taking anti-arrhythmic drugs, therapies like catheter ablation, cardioversion and pulmonary vein isolation, devices such as implantable cardioverter defibrillator (ICD), permanent pacemaker and biventricular pacemakers and defibrillators and surgeries such as maze procedure to correct atrial fibrillation, coronary artery bypass surgery, and minimally invasive techniques.
