ADHD :

ADHD ie., Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder is a neurodevelopmental disorder characterized by multitude of symptoms which mainly includes inattention, hyperactivity , impulsivity and emotional dysregulation and it is often noticed in school going children. A specific cause for ADHD is not known but in majority of the cases it is due to a combination of both genetic and environmental problems (problems during pregnancy ,exposure to toxins, premature birth etc.) .Signs and symptoms include inattention ie,. difficulty sustaining focus, easily distracted, forgetfulness, disorganization etc., Hyperactivity ie,.fidgeting, restlessness, excessive running, difficulty engaging in quiet activities etc,. and impulsivity which include difficulty waiting for one's turn, interrupting others, blurting out answers etc.

Diagnosis is made by comprehensive evaluation,clinical interview, behavioral rating scales ie., Vanderbilt Assessment Scale) and other diagnostic criteria. Management of ADHD involves a multi disciplinary approach that includes medications (stimulants, non-stimulants and or alpha-2a agonists), behavioral therapies like cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), social skills training etc., and lifestyle changes like regular exercise, sleep hygiene, stress management, acadametic support etc.
