A spine surgeon is an orthopedician who specializes in treating injuries and disorders of spine, including neck and back. To become a spine surgeon, it is mandatory to complete graduation in MBBS, pursue post graduation, MS or DNB in Orthopedics, followed by super specialization in Spine Surgery. A spine surgeon mainly treats conditions including degenerative disk disease of the neck and back, herniated disks, infections of the spine, fractures of the spine, and tumors of the spine. Diseases like cervical spondylotic myelopathy, cervical radiculopathy, lumbar radiculopathy, spinal cord tumors and thoracic myelopathy are also addressed by a spine surgeon. The patient's condition is evaluated by a spine surgeon by conducting tests like nerve studies, CT or MRI scans and other investigations.
