Otosclerosis :
An abnormal growth of bone near the middle ear is called as otosclerosis. It is mostly seen in young adults and it is common cause for loss of hearing, if left untreated can lead to deafness.The two ears may be affected but it is very common for one ear to be intensely affected than the other.It is more common in men than women. ENT surgeon should be consulted for the treatment of otoscelrosis .Some of the symptoms for otosclerosis are : Hearing loss which may occur either in one ear or both, unable to hear at low frequencies, dizziness , vertigo, imbalance . Diagnosis is established by taking a proper family history, physical examination of the ear , hearing test by covering one ear, x-rays , CT scan . Treatment include : Hearing aids, surgery (if required ).
