Bronchitis is the inflammation of bronchi. Acute and chronic bronchitis may be a result of infection and lead to incessant Cough, sputum of mucus during cough and shortness of breath. The sputum that is produced can be either yellow or green in severe infections and is sent for sputum analysis. In chronic lung disease, the bronchi become weakened and results in coughing up blood.
Bronchitis is common in Cigarette smokers. The inhaled smoke causes cellular changes in bronchi and lead to chronic bronchitis. In individuals with weak immune system as a result of any underlying disease, Bronchitis is common. Certain substances act as irritant factors to lungs and bronchi such as industrial chemical fumes or textiles dissolvents. GERD or gastroesophageal reflux disease Gastric reflux causes repeated trauma to the bronchi and leads to bronchitis.
