Hydrocephalus :
It is a neurological disorder when there is a excessive cerebro spinal fluid in the ventricles of brain which inturn puts pressure on the ventricles of the brain.Can occur at any age but mostly seen in adults over the age of 60.Some of the symptoms of hydrocephalus include seizures , vomiting , headache, difficulty in vision , fatigue , dementia , urinary incontinence ,difficulty in walking bulging over the head.Hydrocephalus can be congenital or acquired due to infections, or underlying disease like brain tumors ,meningitis and head injuries.Diagnosis is established by radiological investigations like CT , MRI and also certain other tests like lumbar puncture , intra cranial pressure monitoring , and fundoscopic examination.Surgery would be the only option to treat hydrocephalus which may include a shunt or a endoscopic third ventriculostomy. Complication which might occur post surgery would include blockage or infection of the shunt. Hydrocephalus should be treated immediately without delay as it can be fatal if untreated.Certain measures like life style changes ,maintaining a proper weight and limiting alcohol and quitting of smoking would be advised to the patients.
