Wrist Fracture :
A wrist fracture is called a broken wrist. The most commonly fractured bone in the wrist is called the radius bone, and it is known as a distal radius fracture. There will be various types of fractures, like extra-articular fracture, Colles fracture, Smith fracture, intra-articular fracture, comminuted fracture, and open fracture. The wrist fracture will occur due to leaning on the wrist while falling down, sports injuries, or falling from heights. The symptoms that will be observed in a wrist fracture will be swelling, severe pain, stiffness, bruising, tenderness, numbness, and a bent wrist. The diagnosis of wrist fracture will be done based on the physical examination, wrist X-ray, MRI scan, and CT scan. The management advised for a wrist fracture will be with a procedure called as closed reduction, which is a non-surgical procedure. During the procedure of closed reduction, the bone is straightened, and a splint or cast is placed to position the bones in alignment. The other treatment options will be open reduction, which is a surgical procedure where fractured bones are corrected through an incision and the alignment of bones with metal plates and screws. After that, a cast is placed to position the bone.
