Breast Cancer :
Breast cancer starts in the cells of the breast, usually forming a lump. Some may consider this to be a disease of abnormal tissue growth within the breast, but it mostly affects women primarily. Sometimes it affects a few males too. The actual cause cannot be explained eventhough the genetic factors play an important role. Common symptoms include development of a mass within the breast or under arm, changing shape or size of the breast, skin dimpling, spontaneous or sudden nipple discharge or pains. The tests for diagnosis include mammography, ultrasound, MRI, and biopsy. In biopsy, a tiny piece of tissue is removed from the breast lump and sent to the laboratory for testing. Treatments include a removal of the tumor in some cases or the removal of the entire breast together with the application of some radiation therapy to the whole body to destroy the affected cancerous cells, followed by chemotherapy or hormone therapy, depending on the state of cancer involved. Such early detection through screening among women aged over 40 years aids survival.
