Ankle Fracture :
An ankle fracture is called a broken ankle. An ankle fracture can occur when there is an injury to any of the bones in the ankle joint. There are different types of ankle fractures, such as medial malleolus fractures, lateral malleolus fractures, bimalleolar equivalent fractures, bimalleolar fractures, trimalleolar fractures, posterior malleolus fractures, pilon fractures, syndesmotic injury, Maisonneuve fractures. Causes of an ankle fracture can be road accidents, tripping and falling during the time of playing sports, falling from heights, rolling of the ankle, etc. The symptoms seen when there is an ankle fracture are severe pain in the ankle, swelling of the ankle, inability to put weight on ankle, bruising. Diagnostic tests done to identify the ankle fracture are physical examination, X-ray of the ankle, MRI scan, CT scan, and bone scan. Ankle fractures are corrected with surgical treatment using screws and pins.
