Neurosurgeon :
A neurosurgeon is a specialist who has deep knowledge about the brain and nervous system. Furthermore, a neurosurgeon has the necessary training to surgically treat problems in the nervous system, spine and skull. Neurosurgeons may surgically modify the soft tissues, protective membranes and blood vessels around the spinal discs and vertebrae.
The qualifications of a neurosurgeon include MBBS, MS in General Surgery and DM in Neurosurgery. Some neurosurgeons pursue fellowships after earning these high qualifications to further hone their skills. Neurosurgeons can perform brain surgeries such as blood clot removal, trauma repair, aneurysm repair and tumour removal. These specialists can also perform spine surgeries such as spinal fusion, radiosurgery, laminectomy, diskectomy, spine reconstruction and vertebroplasty. Although neurosurgeons primarily employ surgical methods for treatment, these specialists rarely recommend surgery in the first consultation. Most neurosurgeons recommend a few non-operative treatments before suggesting surgery.
