Eclampsia :
A pregnant woman who has high blood pressure and shows signs of liver and kidney damage can experience coma or seizures. Such an onset of seizures or coma is called eclampsia. Problems with the diet, blood vessels, nervous system and brain can cause this condition. However, researchers are not sure about the exact cause of this problem. Pregnant women who experience headaches, abdominal pain, high blood pressure and vision changes are at high risk of eclampsia. The condition is diagnosed with a number of blood tests. A doctor will check parameters such as liver function, blood clotting factors, haemoglobin levels, platelet count and uric acid. Seizures and coma can be prevented by managing the risk factors and giving birth. The doctor may prescribe medicines to lower the blood pressure and prevent seizures. If the blood pressure does not come under control, the doctor may recommend delivering the baby earlier than it is due.
