Interventional Cardiologist :
An interventional Cardiologist is a cardiologist who undergoes further training to use minimally invasive and catheter-based procedures to manage the conditions of the heart and blood vessels. To pursue a career as an interventional cardiologist, one has to complete five and half years of graduation in a medical college, followed by post graduation in General Medicine and then pursue super specialization in Cardiology. Further sub specialization in Interventional Cardiology is required to become an Interventional Cardiologist. An interventional cardiologist treats a wide range of heart diseases such as heart valve disease, heart attack, aneurysm, atherosclerosis, carotid artery disease, peripheral artery disease, hypertrophic cardiomyopathy, aortic valve stenosis, atrial and ventricular septal defects. Various surgical procedures are also performed by interventional cardiologists including angiogram, cardiac catheterization, coronary atherectomy, angioplasty, fractional flow reserve, optical coherence tomography (OCT), intravascular ultrasound, stent placement, patent foramen ovale closure, left atrial appendage closure, atrial septal defect closure, heart valve replacement and repair, alcohol septal ablation, thrombolysis and renal denervation.
