Impetigo is a bacterial skin condition which is most commonly seen in young children. It is clinically presented with painful, itchy blisters around the mouth and other parts of the body. Blisters can easily burst open with yellow or tan fluid content, they may spread to other parts and cause erythematous skin around blisters, underlying swollen lymph nodes are other associated symptoms of impetigo. Impetigo has three types of disease manifestation which are non-bullous, bullous and ecthyma. Staphylococcus aureus and Group A streptococcus are the strains of bacteria which are responsible for causing the impetigo.
Some of the underlying infestations with head lice, eczema and scabies may lead to impetigo in children while tattoo infections are a route to develop impetigo in adults. Impetigo is managed by antibacterial regimen with application of topical antibiotics like mupirocin and use of oral antibiotics like cephalosporin. For milder forms of impetigo, over-the-counter bacitracin ointment deemed to be beneficial. Following routine and proper skin care protocol may aid in faster recovery from impetigo condition.

If someone touches the sores or comes into contact with the fluid from the sores, the bacteria (Group A strep) can spread to others. Sores typically appear ten days after being exposed to group A strep bacteria. If you develop such lesions then consult an impetigo specialist near you.
Impetigo can be exacerbated by a lack of proper handwashing, body washing, and facial cleanliness.
As per the doctors for Impetigo treatment, Impetigo usually clears up in two to three weeks without treatment. However, treatment is frequently recommended because it can shorten the duration of the illness to seven to ten days and reduces the risk of the infection spreading to others.
