High Arch Foot :

High arch foot also known as Pes cavus is a type of foot in which the sole of the foot is very hollow when bearing the weight ie., the arch of the foot is higher than the normal resulting in an excessive curvature of the foot. It can occur due to various conditions like genetics, neurological disorders (like Charcot-marie-tooth disease etc,), muscular imbalances, residual effects of congenital clubfoot, post traumatic bone malformation, contracture of plantar fascia, shortening of achilles tendon, trauma or injury, certain medical conditions like RA etc,.

It can be diagnosed with x-ray dorsoplantar and lateral view of foot showing talonavicular coverage angle and calcaneal pitch respectively. Management includes use of foot orthoses,shoe inserts, physical therapy and exercises, specialised cushion footwear, ankle braces and supports and surgery is suggested in severe cases. Surgical procedures aims at correcting the deformity and rebalancing the foot that includes soft tissue procedures like plantar fascia release ,achilles tendon lengthening,osteotomy, bone stabilising procedures etc,.
