DBS Surgery :
DBS surgery, also called Deep brain stimulation, is the neurosurgical procedure to treat certain neurological conditions like Parkinson's disease, epilepsy, obsessive-compulsive disease, Tourette syndrome, and dystonia. There are some conditions that can benefit from DBS surgery are anxiety, addictions, eating disorders, cluster headaches, Alzheimer's disease, schizophrenia, and medication-resistant depression. In DBS surgery, an implanted device will pass the electric current through electrodes directly to the areas of the brain. That electricity will stimulate the brain cells in that area to function. Before the DBS surgery, you have to undergo an MRI scan and a CT scan to determine the location of the brain that will pass the electric current. A neurosurgeon will be performing DBS surgery as it is a surgical procedure. Some of the complications associated with DBS surgery are bleeding, sepsis, stroke, coma, infections, swelling, seizures, confusion, and headache. There are some side effects of electric stimulation of brain cells, such as muscle tightness, trouble with speech and balance, double vision, lightheadedness, numbness or tingling sensation, mood changes.
