Cervical Spondylosis :
Cervical spondylosis, also termed as arthritis of the neck, is described as the wear and tear affecting the cervical spine. The presenting complaints of cervical spondylosis include stiff neck, neck pain, muscle spasms, a bump or knot in the neck, a clicking, grinding or popping sound while moving the neck, headache and dizziness. The causative factors of cervical spondylosis include spinal changes due to the natural ageing process and medical conditions such as herniated disk, osteoarthritis, degenerative disk disease, bone spurs or osteophytes and spinal stenosis. If left untreated, cervical spondylitis may progress to cervical radiculopathy and cervical myelopathy. There are several types of tests such as X-rays, CT, MRI, myelogram, EMG and nerve conduction studies, that are helpful in diagnosing cervical spondylosis. The treatment modalities to manage cervical spondylosis include physical therapy, taking over the counter pain relievers, applying heat or placing ice to the neck for 15 minutes several times during the day and bracing or wearing a soft collar.
