Bronchitis :
When the airways that lead to the lungs become swollen and irritated, it is said that the individual has bronchitis. Such a swelling of the airways is usually accompanied by mucus production, causing the individual to cough. Coughing is the primary symptom of bronchitis, and it may subside in a few days. Other symptoms of this condition include a runny nose, fever, shortness of breath and tiredness.
Most cases of bronchitis are acute (short-term) and occur due to infections or exposure to irritants. The diagnosis of this condition involves a nasal swab, blood tests, sputum test, pulmonary function test and chest X-ray. Bronchitis is treated by treating the underlying cause. The treatment may involve medications like bronchodilators, antiviral tablets or anti-inflammatory medicine.
