High Risk pregnancy :
This is a pregnancy that poses greater danger to either the health of the mother or the health of the baby. Risks factors include underlying medical conditions like diabetes , hypertensive disease, cardiac disease . Some other factors include age above 35 years or under 17 years of age, obese women, multiple pregnancies that include twins or more, a past history of complications during pregnancy, including miscarriages or preterm labor.
Patients with preeclampsia, gestational diabetes, preterm, or even caesarian section are more prone to high risk pregnancy .One should receive prenatal care regularly to monitor these risks. These types of pregnancies can be managed and treated well by frequent prenatal appointments, specific tests such as ultrasounds and blood work, and various medications to control the blood pressure or blood sugar levels. In some cases bed rest and or even hospitalization may be required. Proper medical care and monitoring usually result in a healthy delivery for most women.
