Hypoglycemia :
Hypoglycemia is a clinical condition in which there is a drastic drop in blood glucose (blood sugar) level. Glucose is the body's most important source of energy and is essential for proper mental function, because the brain prefers to use glucose as its chief nutrient. Low blood sugar can cause symptoms such as shakiness, sweating, dizziness, confusion, hunger, and fast heartbeat. In severe hypoglycemia symptoms such as fainting, convulsions, or even coma can occur. It is highly associated with diabetic patients especially those treated with drugs or injections of insulin to minimize their blood sugar levels. It may also appear in apparently healthy individuals because of missing meals, crash diets, drinking too much alcohol, or vigorous exercise. The treatments for hypoglycemia include the intake of quickly acting sources of sugar, such as glucose tablets, fruit juice, or candies. A diabetic patient should monitor their blood sugar levels closely in order t prevent hypoglycemia and if needed the medications can be altered to avoid hypoglycemia.
