Pulmonologist :
A medical professional who has completed his bachelors degree in medicine further pursues masters in Pulmonology is called as pulmonologist. Pulmonologist diagnoses and treats patients suffering from respiratory system which might include lungs, airways, and other organs which may include in the respiratory system like bronchus. They treat variety of diseases like asthma, pulmonary fibrosis, tuberculosis, pneumonia, interstice lung disease, bronchitis, pneumonia, and malignancy of lungs and respiratory system.
A patient might need to consult a pulmonologist if he or she presents with symptoms like cough, shortness of breath and other infections. Pulmonologists also get trained for performing certain procedures like airway ablation, bronchoscopy bronchial lavage and biopsy.
Pulmonologist also play an important role in treating the patients in critical care unit who require ventilator support or a non invasive ventilator support. A follow up with a pulmonologist would provide a better care especially for certain diseases like tuberculosis and asthma.
