Tricuspid valve disease :
The tricuspid valve separates the upper and lower chambers on the right side of the heart. There are two diseases associated with this valve: regurgitation and stenosis. In tricuspid valve regurgitation, the valve stops closing correctly, causing a backward leakage of blood. On the other hand, tricuspid valve stenosis involves the thickening of the valve, which restricts the proper flow of blood. There are several reasons why the tricuspid valve may become afflicted by these diseases. Right ventricle dilation typically causes tricuspid regurgitation. However, such dilation is usually due to coronary artery disease, heart failure, or mitral valve disease. So, tricuspid regurgitation is usually accompanied by other heart problems. In contrast, tricuspid stenosis tends to be rheumatic in origin but can also be caused by a heart infection. These diseases cause symptoms like tiredness, shortness of breath, and irregular heartbeat. They can be treated with surgery and other procedures.
