Pancreatitis :
The pancreas is a gland that lies behind the stomach and produces enzymes that are helpful in digestion and hormones that regulate sugar levels in the body. Pancreatitis is the inflammation of the pancreas, which is often temporary(acute) or can be life-long(chronic) condition. A person with pancreatitis exhibits symptoms like nausea, vomiting, increased heart rate, fast breathing, fever, indigestion, weight loss, loss of appetite, lightheadedness, and abdominal pain. Gallstones and heavy alcohol usage mainly cause pancreatitis along with other causes like viral infections, autoimmune disease, genetic disorders, hypertriglyceridemia, hypercalcemia, cancer and trauma injury to pancreas. It can be diagnosed through glucose test, stool elastase test, fecal fat analysis, blood tests, and CT-scan pr MRI. Treatment plans include medical management and surgical interventions which include gall bladder surgery, pancreas procedure if necessary and lifestyle management. Early intervention by a Gastroenterologist in diagnosis and management helps to avoid complications like kidney failure, diabetes, infections, breathing problems and pancreatic cancer.
