Leptospirosis :
Leptospirosis refers to a contagious bacterial infection that is transmitted between animals and human beings and is caused by the bacterium, Leptospira. Leptospirosis gets transmitted by getting in contact with contaminated soil or water, reproductive fluids or urine of animals that are infected. The effects of leptospirosis are divided into two phases, namely, the leptospiremic phase and the immune phase. The infected individual presents mild or no symptoms during the leptospiremic phase. However, severe symptoms are observed in the immune phase. The common symptoms induced by leptospirosis are high fever, red eyes, chills, headache, muscle aches, abdominal pain, nausea, diarrhea, vomiting, rash, coughing up blood, yellow skin or eyes, trouble breathing, chest pain, severe yellowing of your skin or eyes, blood in the urine, decreased in the amount of urine, presence of petechiae and black and tarry stool. Leptospirosis is treated using various methods such as prescribing medication, plasmapheresis and mechanical ventilation.
