Diabetic Foot :
Diabetic foot is one of the complications of diabetes, which is caused due to the damage of nerves called diabetic neuropathy. High blood sugar causes damage to the nerves, leading to numbness, loss of sensation in the feet, and tingling sensation. It also damages the blood vessels causing poor blood circulation to the feet. The symptoms of diabetic foot can be frequent bleeding, foul smell, pain in the feet, discharge of pus, swelling, and skin discoloration. The complications of a diabetic foot can be gangrene, foot ulcers, Charcot foot, and infections. The prevention of diabetic foot can be regular examination of foot, washing & drying foot, monitoring blood sugar and controlling the high blood sugar, treatment of ulcers, and in severe cases, amputation of foot to prevent the further spread of disease. This diabetic foot can be diagnosed with physical examination, X-ray, MRI scan, and biopsy.
