Depression in Adults :
Depression in adults is a major mood disorder medically termed as clinical depression characterized by low in mood and aversion to activity. Depression affects ones behavior, feelings, thoughts and a sense of well being. It results in symptoms like chronic feeling of sadness, emptiness, wanting to cry, hopelessness, frustrated, loss of interested in pleasurable activities, episodes of anger and outbursts. They may suffer from sleep disturbances like inability to fall asleep, not feeling refreshed even after long hours of sleep, distributed sleep. Increased or reduced appetite leading to weight loss or weight gain.
Diagnosis of depression Physical examination, Lab tests, DSM- 5, Psychiatric evaluation. Treatment of depression in adults may involve psychotherapy which includes counselling, therapy sessions, etc and medication like selective serotonin re uptake inhibitors, Serotonin nor epinephrine re uptake inhibitors, tricyclic antidepressants, atypical antidepressants, Monoamine oxidase inhibitors.
