Low Blood Pressure :
Low blood pressure is medically known as hypotension. If the blood pressure reading is below 120/80 mmHg, this condition is termed as hypotensive episode. Some of the common causes include severe dehydration, chronic loss of blood, certain medications (diuretics), underlying heart conditions (valve abnormalities), endocrine disorders (hormonal disturbance), neurological disorders (Parkinson's disease), severe drug reaction, vitamin deficiencies. Low blood pressure can be manifested as dizziness, loss of consciousness, associated with malaise and headache, nausea or vomiting, confusion or spatial disorientation. It can be easily reversed with adequate hydration, electrolyte infusions or supplements, mediations, compression stockings, elevation of head positioning, avoiding prolonged standing positions or sudden movements. A daily monitoring of blood pressure is recommended to note changes and report to a general physician or a cardiologist.
