Throat Infection :
Throat infection, also known as pharyngitis, causes a sore throat or a scratchy sensation in the back of the throat. Inflammation of the mucosa of the throat results in a sore throat. Depending on how long the symptoms last, throat infections are categorised into acute and chronic types. The factors responsible for causing throat infections include over-screaming, allergies, post-nasal drip, bacterial infections like strep throat and sinus infections, tonsillitis, mouth breathing, acid reflux and tumours of the throat. The presenting complaints of throat infection include redness or swelling in the throat, headache, fever, white patches, streaks or spots in the throat, runny nose, fatigue, cough, stomach upset, nasal congestion, swollen lymph nodes, hoarseness, and tonsils. The management of throat infection involves various options like taking antibiotics, antacids, antihistamines and special mouthwashes, gargling with salt water and using a humidifier, to relieve the symptoms.
