Measles is a disease that causes rashes all over the body. The rashes usually begin appearing in the face and spread downward. The disease causes extreme flu-like symptoms such as redness of the eyes, body pain, high fever, bark-like cough and tiredness. Its symptoms do not appear all at once. The condition is caused by the Measles virus, which is extremely contagious. It spreads through the air and via close contact with an infected individual. Measles can cause severe complications such as bronchitis, pneumonia, blindness, brain swelling, and even death. There is no cure for this disease. It usually affects an individual for about two weeks before they recover. Measles is especially dangerous because it damages the immune system. So, when someone recovers from this disease, they become more likely to be affected by other infections. It can be prevented by getting vaccinated.
