IVF :

IVF( In-vitro fertilization) is a type of assisted reproductive technology(ART) where an egg is extracted from the woman and it is fertilized with a sperm from either the husband or sperm donor outside the body in a laboratory setting. It done in a case where other reproductive techniques and infertility treatments fail (IUI, ovulation induction, medications, conservative methods and other unknown factors where the woman is not able to conceive ).

It can be used in case of low sperm count , poor motility, ovulation disorders, tubal damage (due to infections -PID ,birth defects), unexplained intertility, advanced maternal and paternal age, endometriosis, PCOS, tubal ligation or vasectomy , genetic disorder like sickle cell anemia etc. Before undergoing IVF detailed medical history, physical examination, semen analysis, ovulation testing, hormone level tests (FSH, AMH ), ultrasound and hysterosalpingography should be done to assist the success rate. It is conducted by a trained obstetrician and gynaecologist who is specialized in infertility treatments.
