An orthopedist, or orthopedic surgeon, is the medical doctor who specialize in dealing with the diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of diseases concerning any disorders of the musculoskeletal system, which includes bones, joints, ligaments, tendons, and muscles. Full-range conditions they treat range from managing fractures to arthritis, sports injuries, spinal disorders, and congenital deformities. The procedures by which a doctor would deal with such patients include joint replacements, arthroscopy, and spinal surgeries. An orthopedic in India would most likely have had an MBBS degree followed by three years of an MS or Master of Surgery in Orthopedics. Many would also take fellowships in joint replacement, sports medicine, or pediatric orthopedics for added specialization. . Once movement can be regained and the pain is reduced, there is much that the orthopedics can contribute to improvements in the quality of the patients' life.
