Radiation Oncologist :
A qualified medical professional possessing a bachelor's degree in medicine followed by a master's degree in radiation oncology is known as a radiation oncologist. A radiation oncologist treats patients with cancer with radiation therapy. Radiation oncologists assess the patient's condition initially and decide how far the radiation would benefit the patient, discuss the risks and benefits of the radiation with the patient and their family, explain the course of treatment, number of sessions required, type of radiation which would be given and also monitors the patient during post-radiation period. Some of the cancers a radiation oncologist might treat with radiation include breast cancer, paranasal sinus cancer, leukemia, spinal cord tumors, acoustic tumors, trigeminal neuralgia, lung cancer, and prostate cancer. They also work closely with oncologists and surgeons and plan appropriate treatment. The two main types of radiation a radiation oncologist uses are external beam radiation therapy and internal radiation therapy.
