Deep Vein Thrombosis :
When a clot is formed in the veins, which are very deep, it is called deep vein thrombosis. As a result of deep vein thrombosis, the patient might develop pulmonary thromboembolism, which might be fatal. It is mostly observed in the lower and upper limbs. Some of the symptoms that a patient might experience include swollen legs, stiffness in the calf muscle, discoloration of the skin, abdominal pain, and severe headache. Some of the causes for deep vein thrombosis include prolonged sitting, obesity, unhealthy lifestyle, bedridden patients for a long period of time, strong family history, and underlying diseases like vasculitis, patients undergoing hormone therapy, varicose veins, and inflammatory bowel disease. Diagnosis is made by a thorough physical examination, ultrasound, MRI, doppler, and CT. Treatment includes thrombolytic therapy, administration of anticoagulants, and DVT stockings, and, in some cases, an intervention might also be suggested.
