Coronary Angiogram / Angiography :
A coronary angiogram is an imaging test that reveals the movement of the blood in the coronary arteries. The coronary arteries are the blood vessels wrapped around the heart that deliver the oxygen-rich blood to the heart muscle. If a patient complains that they have chest pain, shortness of breath or tiredness, then a cardiologist may suspect a problem in these arteries. In such cases, a coronary angiogram can reveal whether the coronary arteries have become blocked or narrowed.
Before the procedure, the patient is given a medical gown and asked to change into it. Then, the patient must lay on a bed where they are sedated. Next, a cardiologist makes a keyhole-sized cut in the groin or the arm. Then, the doctor inserts a catheter into an artery via the cut. The doctor guides the catheter into the coronary arteries with the guidance of an X-ray scanner. When the catheter reaches the artery, a cardiologist injects a dye into the heart. Then, X-ray scans are taken of the heart and its surrounding areas.
