Adenoids :
Adenoids can be referred to as the glands that are seen in the upper airway, present behind the nasal cavity. Adenoids will usually shrink at the age of 5 years. Adenoids can be affected by many infections, such as upper respiratory infections, allergies, frequent ear infections, and recurrent nosebleeds. The enlarged adenoids can lead to the blockage of airways. The symptoms that are observed in the case of enlarged adenoids can be cracked lips, dry mouth leading to bad breath, runny nose, nasal congestion, snoring, mouth breathing, obstructive sleep apnea, sore throat, and a feeling of fullness in the ears. The diagnosis of adenoids can be made through sleep studies, X-rays, CT scan, nasal endoscopy, MRI scan, and bacterial culture test. The treatment for the adenoids can be through surgical treatment called adenoidectomy, in which the adenoids will be removed, and medications like antibiotics, antihistamines, and corticosteroid nasal sprays will be used.
