A bariatric surgeon is a specialist surgeon who provides surgical treatment for obesity or overweight, which is called weight loss surgery or metabolic surgery. A bariatric surgeon will be qualified with a graduation in MBBS, followed by post graduation, MS in General Surgery. Bariatric surgeons are trained in performing bariatric surgery in for the reduction of excess fat leading to overweight in individuals.
