Loss of smell can also be called anosmia. Loss of smell can be described as a symptom of certain disease conditions, which can lead to an inability to sense smells. Loss of smell can occur due to various conditions, which include common cold, nasal congestion, nasal polyps, sinus infections, deviated septum, influenza, COVID-19, and hay fever.
