Gastrectomy :
Gastrectomy can be described as the surgical removal of the stomach. Gastrectomy can be done in case of stomach cancer, and one can also live further without a stomach. There are two types of gastrectomy procedures such as total gastrectomy and partial gastrectomy. Gastrectomy can be advised to treat many conditions which include gastritis, obesity, benign tumors in the stomach, peptic ulcer disease, any injuries to the stomach. Gastrectomy can be performed under anesthesia by placing a catheter to drain the urine, and then a nasogastric tube is inserted to empty the contents that are present in the stomach, by using open or laparoscopic surgery, stomach will be removed partially or completely. Then the digestive system is reconstructed by the surgeon. The incisions are sutured. The complications that can be seen with gastrectomy procedure includes bile reflux, anastomotic leak, afferent and efferent loop syndrome, malnutrition, internal hernia, dumping syndrome, post surgery gastroparesis, infection, narrowing at the site of attachment, and blood clots.
