A lump in the neck can be described as a swelling or abnormal growth in the neck region. It can be a sign of any infection or inflammation. The lump in the neck can occur due to bacterial or viral infections, thyroid diseases, swollen lymph nodes, cysts, cancers such as lymphoma, thyroid cancers, head and neck cancers, salivary gland problems, mumps, allergic reactions, or a stone in the salivary duct.
