Paralysis :
Paralysis can be described as the loss of voluntary movements in the muscles. Paralysis can affect any part of the body. There are many types of paralysis such as localized paralysis, generalized paralysis such as hemiplegia, quadriplegia, paraplegia, diplegia, monoplegia. The paralysis can be caused due to autoimmune diseases, brain injuries such as cerebral palsy, birth defects, traumatic brain injury, neurological conditions such as amyotrophic lateral sclerosis. The symptoms that are observed when there is paralysis are spinal cord injuries, muscle cramps, strokes, loss of muscle control, numbness in limbs. The diagnosis of paralysis can be done with X-rays, CT scan, MRI scan, electromyogram (EMG), spinal tap or lumbar puncture, myelogram. The management of paralysis can be done with physiotherapy, helps to improve mobility, coordination, strength, medications to relieve pain and muscle spasms, mobility aids such as braces, wheel chairs, occupational therapy, supportive care.
