Knee Arthroscopy:
A knee arthroscopy is performed by using keyholes in the knee region either to diagnose a condition or to treat it. It allows the allows the orthopaedic surgeon to look at the knee joint without making a large cut. When physical therapies and pharmacological interventions fail to produce satisfactory pain relief, a knee arthroscopy is recommended. The knee joint is complex and is surround with numerous cartilages and other soft tissues. Any damage to these structures generally cannot be clearly seen with x rays needing an arthroscopy. Meniscus is a curved piece of cartilage that covers the joint and is often the first damaged in sports related injuries. Knee arthroscopy can be done for partial meniscectomy or to repair a damaged portion of the meniscus. Anterior cruciate ligament or posterior cruciate ligaments hold the joint in place and damage to this can be repaired with knee arthroscopy. Sometime the lubricant of the joints, the synovial tissue gets infected and needs drainage.
