Frozen shoulder:
Frozen shoulder is actually adhesive capsulitis where there is stiffness in the shoulder joint. This is characterized by three stages. In the first stage, there is a very slow onset of pain. This is carried on for at least six weeks before there is loss of movement in the shoulder. In the second stage, the pain is reduced by the stiffness is intact. In the later, thawing stage, the shoulder motion slowly returns to normal. This condition gets better over time by itself. But the improvement is slow and can often take up to three years. During this, since the pain is constant, over the counter pain medicines are given for extended periods of time. Apart from that physical therapy should be done everyday to improve the range of motion. External heat in the form of heat pads can be applied which are shown to reduce pain temporarily.
