Seizures :
Seizures are abnormal electrical activity in the brain. There are types of seizures, such as focal seizures and generalized seizures. Seizures can occur due to disturbances in the electrical activity of the brain. The symptoms that can be seen in seizures can be uncontrollable movements like muscle spasms, convulsions, loss of consciousness, staring, clenching of teeth, abnormal eye movements, loss of bowel control, sudden emotional feelings of joy, anxiety, confusion, and fear, loss of bladder control, grunting, and drooling of saliva. There are four stages of a seizure: the prodrome phase, the aura phase, the ictal phase, and the postictal phase. The diagnosis of seizures can be made with physical examination, neurological examination, blood tests, genetic tests, CT scan, electroencephalogram (EEG), MRI scan, spinal tap or lumbar puncture, and PET scan. Seizures can be treated with medications, managing underlying causes, brain stimulation, and surgical treatment.
