Frequently asked questions

The best doctors for otomycosis treatment in Hyderabad describe it as a fungal ear infection that mainly affects the outer ear canal, but can extend to the middle ear as well. The causes of otomycosis include excessive antibiotic and steroid medication use, weak immunity, getting infected water into the ear, use of hearing aids or earplugs, use of cotton swabs to clean ears, etc.

Treatment of otomycosis mainly consists of medical cleaning of the discharge and build-up within the ear canal, antifungal ear drops, and in more severe cases oral antifungal medications.

The most common cause of otomycosis is an infection with the fungus Aspergillus or Candida; It usually happens when there is exposure to contaminated water such as during swimming, constant use of hearing aids or earplugs that are not maintained properly, skin conditions such as eczema, etc.

Although otomycosis is not considered to be a serious condition, in some people with weakened immune systems, and other systemic conditions such as diabetes the condition may lead to the development of serious complications.

A fungal infection of the ear that is not treated correctly and promptly can turn chronic, and this infection can first spread to the bones of the skull, and even to the brain, especially in individuals in which immunity is weak, or there is uncontrolled diabetes.

In individuals with weak immune systems or those with diabetes that is not properly controlled, otomycosis can spread to the brain, and cause complications.

The treatment of otomycosis should be done by a qualified ENT specialist near you. Attempting to treat the infection at home without a medical consultation can result in the spread of the infection deep into the ear canal and can lead to complications.

The signs of otomycosis can include :

  •  Pain in the ear
  •  Redness and swelling of the ear
  •  The feeling of fullness in the ears
  •  Ringing in the ears
  •  Hearing loss
  •  And discharge from the ear.
